A Letter
Dear Ed,
Do you like the parchment paper? I thought it and the font might amuse you. I won’t tell you where or even when I’m writing you. I won’t give away too much of what you’re writing now. This is your ditty so have at it. Just wanted to send a quick note to tell you how much I love you, Edmund Strasse. And how brave I think you are. Brave beyond what you might imagine now.
The scene between you and Meryl - the ‘Mundy’s Tree’ scene - I’m glad you wrote it. But I also have the advantage of knowing when you wrote it. Meryl might not like it very much. Keep asking her questions. Let me say that. Keep asking her questions.
I can’t say that I am in some magnificent place or that I’ve had some sort of magnificent transformation or even - as I said - where I am. I’ll let you do your writing thing. Write away. Do your best to write me well, won’t you?
Empathy and hope. These things are good.
I will say this. I’ve seen Paris and Vienna and The Great Wall and many other places besides. If you keep writing, my guess is so will you.
I love you. Remember that. And I miss you.
Your ‘Doppel’ Brother
(The slasher killer psycho fiend!),
Jason
